Dealing with a Trust and Safety Block: How to Navigate an AdSense Investigation
If your AdSense dashboard has been replaced by a "Trust and Safety" warning and ad serving has stopped, your account is currently in a "probation" period. Google’s internal security team has flagged your account for behavior that suggests a risk to their advertisers.
This isn't necessarily the end of your journey, but it does mean you need to act quickly and professionally to prove your account is legitimate.
1. What is a Trust and Safety Investigation?
Google’s Trust and Safety (T&S) team is the "police force" of the advertising ecosystem. When they block an account, it’s usually because of one of three triggers:
Account Integrity Issues: You might have provided inconsistent payment information, or your identity verification (ID/Tax info) doesn't match your account details.
Suspicious Traffic Patterns: A sudden spike in traffic from "junk" sources or social media bots can trigger an investigation to prevent Invalid Traffic (IVT).
Coordinated Inauthentic Behavior: If you are part of a "click group" or if you are managing multiple accounts from the same IP address, the T&S team will flag it as fraud.
2. How to Unblock Your Account: A Step-by-Step Guide
Because this is an "Investigation," you cannot simply click a "Fix" button and have it resolved in an hour. You must follow a formal recovery process.
Step A: Verify Your Information
The most common "silent" trigger for T&S blocks is unverified data.
Go to your Payments > Verification Check.
Ensure your Identity Verification and Address (PIN) Verification are completed.
Check https://www.google.com/search?q=payments.google.com to see if there are any alerts on your payment profile. If Google can't verify who you are, they won't trust you with their ads.
Step B: The Traffic Audit
Before you appeal, you must find out what went wrong. Open your Google Analytics and look for:
Referral Spikes: Did you get 10,000 visitors from a strange "traffic exchange" or a low-quality social media link?
CTR Spikes: Is your Click-Through Rate (CTR) unusually high (e.g., above 10%)? This is a red flag for invalid clicking.
Action: If you find bad traffic sources, block those IPs or stop the promotion immediately.
Step C: The Formal Appeal
If your account allows for an appeal (check your email for an "Invalid Activity Appeal" link), you must treat it like a legal document.
Don't say: "I didn't do anything wrong, please unblock me."
Do say: "I noticed a spike in traffic from [Source Name] on [Date]. I have investigated this and realized it was invalid. I have now implemented [Security Plugin/Firewall] and stopped that traffic source to protect the AdSense ecosystem."
3. The "Waiting" Period
Trust and Safety investigations can take anywhere from 48 hours to 4 weeks. During this time:
Do NOT create a second AdSense account. This is a "death sentence" for your original account, as Google will link the two and ban both for "Circumventing Systems."
Keep Posting: Continue adding high-quality, original content. This shows the human reviewer that you are a legitimate publisher, not a "throwaway" site.
Summary
A Trust and Safety block is a test of your professionalism. By verifying your identity, auditing your traffic, and providing a clear, honest explanation of any issues, you give the T&S team a reason to trust you again.
